THANKSGIVING MARSHMALLOW FONDANT CAKE

First off let me start off by saying Happy Thanksgiving! Every year I have soooo much to be thankful for and this year in particular I am thankful for the many blessing marshmallows have brought to our lives. I won’t get too mushy on you guys but definitely want you to know I appreciate each and every one of you and your continued support means the world to me. I’m thankful for you!!

Now, remember the Pumpkin Spice Marshmallow Fondant DIY tutorial I posted a few weeks back? Well…. I want to show you what I ended up using it for. It was my very very first time making marshmallow fondant and using it. Can’t believe it took me this long to get familiar with it and now I love it! I had such a blast playing and experimenting with it. I am no Brittany (Edible Details), Lynlee (Lynlee’s Petite Cakes), Rachel (Fondant Flinger) or Brenda (Sugar High, Inc.) but I must say I impressed myself with my new found fondant skills haha…. I guess all those episodes I watched of Food Network Challenge and Cake Boss did pay off.

I started off by just playing around, cutting out shapes with cookie cutters, and trying to mold little 3D figurines.

See what else I made below….

Then my creative light bulb went off, I decided to attempt to make a cake completely decorated with marshmallow fondant. It would have pumpkins, a turkey, Fall leaves and a little “THANKS” bunting.

I used an 8″ foam cake dummy which I covered completely with fondant.

I used luster and petal dust and a small brush to add color to the leaves. Then piping gel to attach them to the side of the cake.

I made edible paint for the pumpkins using AmeriColor’s Orange food gel coloring mixed with vodka. Same for the turkey but using Chocolate Brown. I painted the turkey’s feathers and details using a small brush, piping gel and luster dust.

I smeared a thin layer of clear piping gel on top center of the cake and on the board around the cake to attached the green sanding sugar. Then placed my painted pumpkins, and turkey on top of it. The piping gel served as glue and they didn’t move at all :)

Lastly, I made a little bunting using baker’s twine, two bamboo skewers and washi tape (or craft tape).

I love how it came out!!! I’ll definitely be playing with marshmallow fondant some more in the future :)

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
